katochi 40th anniversary celebration!

VIP Donors are invited to make plans to join us for a supported and joyful weekend, celebrating 40 years of partnership between Katochi and Kansas!  

This relationship endures through the stewardship of the Sister Cities Project, the KU Theatre in Greece Program and the hundreds of American Students and Faculty whose lives have been touched by the warmth of Katochi/Messolonghi.

Kansas 2 Katochi (K2K), grows out of these relationships with the goal of “giving back” to the community in gratitude for the lives our Greek friends have touched and changed over these years.

The following is a rough itinerary of our VIP Celebration.  If you are a VIP Donor of K2K, please make plans to join us!  If you are not yet, please contact us through this website and join the party!  Opa!

*Arrive in Athens. - You will be met at the airport at an established time and bus transportation to Messolonghi will be provided free of charge.

*K2K is organizing a block of hotels rooms in a boutique hotel in Messolongi for our guests to book for their stay.

*Evening: dinner on your own in Messolonghi.

 *9:00am - a bus will arrive at the hotel to pick up our VIP Donors who wish to attend our day trip.

*Travel to Patras for a day of shopping, dining and touring The Cathedral of St. Andrew, the largest Orthodox Church in Greece.  At the Cathedral, see the cross of St. Andrew, which is encrusted in gold. (Pictured here)

*Afternoon:  Return to the hotel.

*Evening: a bus will arrive at the hotel to transport our guests to the theatre on Oneidas to see the KU Theatre in Greece production, along with the rest of the Katochi community.

 *9:00am- a bus will arrive at the hotel for a tour of the area.  We will begin with coffee by the sea or “beach yoga”, taught by one of our supporters who will join us on our trip.  

A day touring Messolonghi and/or Katochi is being further planned for this day.  Watch for details!  All transportation and translation services will be provided.

*Evening: a bus will bring our supporters to the First Elementary School of Katochi for a community party, celebrating 40 years of friendship!!!

The Party!

*Both Mayor's from Messolonghi and Lawrence will be in attendance, along with KU program leadership Professor Paul Touyz, Professor Nathan Bowman, Former Chair Dennis Christilles and Dimitra Pitsikou, K2K leadership Julian Thomas, Colleen Beverage and Angela Cherrill and many of our donors!

*K2K will make Tacos! (at the request of students of the Dimitra Pitsikou English School)

*Greek friends will teach Greek dancing.

*American friends will teach American line dancing.

*All Katochi residents and other friends are invited to join us!

 *A bus will take those who wish to join to Athens either to catch their plane home 

OR

*KU Theatre in Greece program has invited K2K VIP Donors to join them on a supported Island Visit.  Island and length of trip plans are still being finalized (stay tuned!) VIP Donors can enjoy a supported Island trip for several days with the KU program leadership and students!
